How much of Earth’s surface is covered by ocean?
Data wins every time in science, especially in this game, played by Grade 5 students as they dive into learning about the open ocean. We tossed a globe beach ball around, sampling data about where our right thumb landed (land or ocean?), collecting the information using tally marks and using it in the end to provoke thoughtful discussion about accuracy and data and making conclusions. There was even an opportunity to research the findings of other science organizations like USGS. How accurate were our findings? Considering that the USGS site claims that Earth has about 70% water, view the data we collected below to make your own conclusion.
